The Grove City College Department of Music presents the College Orchestra’s annual Winter Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2017 in Ketler Auditorium of the J. Howard Pew Fine Arts Center on campus.
The orchestra will be conducted by Dr. Jeffrey M. Tedford ’00, professor of music and director of orchestras, and the concert features winners of the Orchestra’s annual Concerto Competition.
Claire DeArmitt ’17 (voice, music education major) will perform “Una Voce Poco Fa” from Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville.” Kassaundra Funch ’18 (voice, music education major) will perform “Monica’s Waltz” from Menotti’s “The Medium.” Emily Nicolette-Fantin ’18 (piano, music education major) will perform the first movement of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1.
The performance will also highlight the work of two student conductors, who are completing independent studies with Tedford in orchestral conducting. Sarah Leon ’17 (violin, music education major) will conduct the first movement of Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 “Unfinished” and Mark Wasilko ’17 (euphonium, music education major) will conduct the Berceuse and Finale from Stravinsky’s “Firebird Suite.”
“This concert will feature the best and brightest students involved in the music program. Not only do we have an outstanding collegiate orchestra, but our student soloists and student conductors are first-rate and work incredibly hard. This concert gives us an opportunity to showcase the talent that exists among the student body at Grove City College,” Tedford said.
Doors open at 7 p.m. and the concert is free and open to the public. Parking is free.
