Top music students face off at Concerto/Aria Competition

The Grove City College Department of Music and the Symphony Orchestra will host the 33rd annual Concerto/Aria Competition at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25 in the Arnold Recital Hall of Pew Fine Arts Center on campus.

The competition attracts the College’s top music students to sing or play their way to a coveted spot as a featured performer at an upcoming Symphony and Chamber Orchestra concert. This year’s competition includes nine students who will sing arias or perform concertos on cello, flute, or piano for a panel of judges who are experts in the fields of music performance and education.

The event is free and open to the public. It will be livestreamed at: gcc.edu/livestream.

“This is one of my favorite evenings of the year because it gives students an opportunity to perform at the highest level and receive feedback,” said Dr. Jeffrey Tedford ’00, who chairs the Music Department and hosts the competition.

“I am so proud of each of the students and their accompanists who annually prepare for months for this event. It is so rewarding to see the musical growth of these students and the support they offer each other despite the competitive atmosphere,” he said.
