Grove City College is launching Faith & Freedom Press, a publishing imprint dedicated to advancing the College’s commitment to Christian faith, conservative values, and the foundations of a free society.
Faith & Freedom Press’ first title is “Born of Ideas: How Principles, Faith, and Courage Forged America” by alumnus Lawrence W. Reed ’75, one of the nation’s leading advocates for freedom. The book explores the moral, religious, and philosophical roots of American liberty and is available now at faithandfreedompress.com.
It is a fitting first edition for the press, which is focused on scholarship shaped by biblical truth, permanent ideas, and conservative values and their implications across a broad range of subjects. The Institute for Faith & Freedom (IFF), the College’s conservative think tank, is overseeing the imprint’s selection of authors and topics.
“For 150 years, Grove City College has formed men and women who love God, love their country, and love learning,” College President Bradley Lingo ’00 said. “Faith & Freedom Press is a natural extension of that mission. Through clear, engaging works on faith, civic life, history, politics, and economics, we hope to impact the broader culture in the same way we seek to shape the minds and lives of our students.”
In addition to “Born of Ideas,” Faith & Freedom Press expects to publish two more volumes in the next year, both by Grove City College faculty. “God and AI” by Dr. Brian Dellinger ’07, professor of Computer Science, and “Ronald Reagan and Race” by Dr. Paul Kengor, a Political Science professor who serves as IFF’s executive director and chief academic fellow.

“Born of Ideas” is an engaging, accessible collection of essays through which Reed introduces readers to well-known figures and unsung heroes whose convictions shaped a nation. From the Mayflower Compact to the struggles of the Revolutionary era, each chapter illuminates the principles that made America unique and that remain essential today.
Faith & Freedom Press’ inaugural author is a distinguished and accomplished graduate of Grove City College whose work in public policy, economics, and advocacy have been recognized around the world.
The book is dedicated “To the students of Grove City College, who have kept the flame that was lit in 1776.” Reed, who earned his B.A. in Economics, said the College had a critical influence on his life’s work.
“My experiences at Grove City College in the first half of the 1970s set the course for the rest of my life. It was there … that my love of liberty deepened into a professional passion,” he writes in the introduction. “The school’s values are American values, and the College has not bowed to political winds or ephemeral fads since I graduated in 1975.”
Reed led Michigan’s Mackinac Center for Public Policy for 21 years, building it into one of the country’s most influential state-based think tanks, and later become president of the Foundation for Economic Education (FEE), which he revived as a force in the liberty movement. He now holds the titles of president emeritus and Humphreys Family Senior Fellow at FEE.
A prolific writer, his essays, journalism, and books have inspired thousands. He has traveled to 92 countries on six continents to advance his principles. His work highlighting Polish resistance figures during the Cold War earned him the enmity of its communist rulers and later, after the thaw, the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland, the highest award that nation can bestow on a foreigner.
Reed holds an M.A. in history from Slippery Rock State University, along with two honorary doctorates.
