Ezekiel Esteban, Britta Lagerquist take top senior spots

The 2025 Grove City College Senior Man and Woman of the Year awards were presented, respectively, to Ezekiel Esteban and Britta Lagerquist on Wednesday, April 24 during the College’s annual Recognition Convocation.

Lagerquist, an Exercise Science major from Pittsburgh, Pa., is known for her excellence in academics and athletics and for her dedicated service to campus life and her local church. As a research assistant, she has had her work published in scientific journals, and as a member of the women’s varsity soccer team, she has received numerous honors for academics, sportsmanship, and athletic accomplishment, including being selected twice for the All-Conference First Team. She served her local church for four years as a youth group leader and three years as a violinist.

She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and served a year each as vice president and president. She was secretary of the Crown & Scepter Honorary Service Society. She is also a member of the Mortar Board National Honorary Society and of Omicron Delta Kappa.

Woman of the Year nominees also included: Mary Margaret Bargery, an English major from Alexandria, Va.; Caroline Dawson, an Entrepreneurship major from Wexford, Pa.; Molly Galbreath, an English and Business Management major from Ellwood City, Pa.; and Kaitlyn Sipes, a Marketing major from North Chili, N.Y.

Esteban, a Biochemistry major with a Health Concentration from Weyers Cave, Va., is widely regarded for being an excellent student, strong leader, and caring person. He has been involved in campus activities from IM sports to music, serving as a piano accompanist for students at various events and a member of the Marching Band for two years and the Wind Ensemble for four.

He served in Roundtable, Orientation Board, the Crimson & White Society, and on the Student Government Association for four years and is currently Executive Student Body President. Esteban is a member of the Pre-Health Society and the Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society. He is a Trustee Fellow and a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, having served as this year’s Treasurer.

Man of the Year nominees also included: Joshua Fleming, a Business Management major from Bergen, N.Y.; Luke Kimmich, a Finance major from Export, Pa.; Ryan Pirger, a Chemistry major from East Kingston, N.H.; and Jim Shyu, a Biology/Health major from Murrysville, Pa.

The awards are presented jointly by the leadership honoraries Mortar Board and Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) as a service to Grove City College. Man and Woman of the Year selections are made based on scholarship, leadership, and service. The candidates were voted on by students and faculty.

The senior awards are the highest honors that the College can bestow on students. Their names are recorded for posterity on a memorial plaque on a boulder outside Harbison Chapel on campus. Former recipients of this prestigious honor have gone on to become leaders in faith, education, business, law, and health care.

Grove City College celebrated student achievement and academic excellence at Wednesday’s Recognition Convocation.

Dr. Dale L. McIntyre, professor of Mathematics, was recognized as Professor of the Year and delivered remarks at Wednesday’s convocation. McIntyre originally joined the faculty of Grove City College in 1985 and left in 1988 to pursue a Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences from Clemson University. He returned with his doctorate in 1991 and has been a staple of the Mathematics Department ever since. Over the years, McIntyre has taught more than 15 different courses and served as adviser for several student organizations, including Campus Crusade and Life Advocates. He is known for his good humor and the interest and care he shows in students.
