The Grove City College Department of Music and Fine Arts, in collaboration with the Office of Advancement, is pleased to announce that Trio Nova Mundi has been named the College’s Ensemble-in-Residence.
Trio members Maureen Conlon Gutierrez (violin), Elisa Kohanski (cello) and Becky Billock (piano) are all on the faculty of Grove City College. In their new role, the trio will provide outreach on behalf of the College, perform at least one concert on campus each year and offer several open rehearsals on campus.
“We feel very fortunate to have these talented musicians on staff,” Department of Music and Fine Arts Chair Beverly Carter said. “Individually and collectively, the high caliber of their musicianship—coupled with an obvious joy in music-making—will make a significant contribution to our music curriculum and the campus as a whole.”
As part of the Office of Advancement’s “Showcasing the Classics” series, Trio Nova Mundi will be in concert in the Arnold Recital Hall of the Pew Fine Arts Center at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 19.
The members of Trio Nova Mundi span the Americas in their musical training and heritage. The trio strives to embrace this heritage by showcasing the music and composers of the New World, by performing new or lesser-known works alongside the classics. Since its inception in 2001, the trio has appeared in concert and with regional orchestras in the US, Mexico and Ecuador.
Trio Nova Mundi is committed to community outreach and the goal of bringing musical appreciation to younger audiences across the globe. In addition to performances in the US, the trio is actively planning a tour of South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe for August/September 2013, where they will perform and engage in educational outreach.
