Why did you choose to study abroad?
Studying abroad is something that has interested me for a long time, before coming to college I was adamant about looking into schools that offered and encouraged studying abroad. I chose to be an International Business major which requires study abroad, and from there most of the pieces fell into place.
How did you choose the country you went to?
With my major, I have to choose a language concentration. Since I took some German in high school, I continued with it in college. I was therefore determined to study in a German speaking country. Germany or Austria made the most sense then I just looked for a program that would fit my academic and budget needs.

I remember sitting in a café in the historic part of the city I was studying in, drinking coffee, ordering in German, and I was suddenly aware of how far from home I was but yet how at home I felt. It was the experience of realizing I was suddenly comfortable in a foreign environment.
How has going abroad changed you?
The study abroad experience definitely opened my eyes to understanding the ways in which other people think, feel and act and how at the same time they can be so similar and different. Being abroad I had the opportunity to have conversations with people who had a totally different framework of thinking. I think I came back with a much greater empathy for the world and a deeper desire to explore all the opportunities in it.
