The Department of Communication Studies at Grove City College prepares students for diverse careers in mass media, interpersonal, group and organizational communication and for graduate and professional study.
Situating the study of human communication as a robust theological, philosophical, and cultural locus of intellectual inquiry, the Department of Communication Studies nurtures socially responsible, engaged citizens who can interpret and evaluate the images and messages they create and receive.
Through specialized instruction in rhetorical theory and criticism, writing for the media, research methods in communication, intercultural communication and persuasion theory, students learn to think critically, respect diversity and communicate effectively.
Students become cultivators – people who tend and nourish what is best in human culture, who do the hard and painstaking work to preserve the best of what people before us have done. Moving beyond being mere consumers, we help students realize their full potential as creators – people who dare to think and do something that has never been thought or done before, something that makes the world more welcoming and beautiful. Together, we seek to be stewards of culture as we critique, cultivate, and create.
