Scrubgrass Power Plant Project

Scrubgrass power plant near Kennerdell, PA is designed to burn bituminous waste coal to create steam.  The steam drives a turbine capable of generating about 80MW of electricity.  Limestone is added to the fuel to reduce sulfur emissions.  A significant amount of the limestone is eventually discarded with the waste ash.  A team of GCC seniors is working to develop a prototype process to recover limestone from the waste ash.
