WINNERS SELECTED IN CONCERTO COMPETITION |

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Three performances topped a record number of participants at the annual Grove City College Concerto Competition Feb. 1.
The winners were: sophomore Abigail VanPatter of Matthews, N.C., who performed “Danses Sacree et Profane for Harp” by Claude Debussy; sophomore Jamie and senior Megan Betteridge, both of Pittsford, N.Y., who performed “Concerto in E-flat for Two Horns” by Josef Fiala; and junior Rebecca Smiddy of Miami, Fla., who performed “Concerto for Flute” by Jacques Ibert.
Contestants were critiqued on rhythm, technique, intonation, musicianship and stage presence. The judges were Elizabeth Heath-Charles, music director of the Butler County Symphony Orchestra, Dr. Ward Jamison, professor of music at Allegheny College, and Donald Kephardt, professor of music at Geneva College.
The winners will be featured performers in the spring orchestra concert at 8 p.m. April 25 in Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center on campus.
