Spotlight: Career Services seeks parents’ input
For months, a significant number of conversations overheard at the grocery store or gas station have to do with the poor economy and the difficulty of attaining employment in today’s workforce. It’s a nationwide epidemic that has certainly impacted our work in Career Services as more organizations have instituted hiring freezes and pulled back their on-campus recruiting. In the face of this tough economic climate, our office has stepped up efforts to assist our students with their job and internship searches through various initiatives.
One such initiative is to expand the list of organizations that recruit our students for full-time jobs and internships. We believe you, our parents, are a valuable resource in this endeavor.
While our employment connections remain strong, we would like to expand our contacts by including parents in our network. Career Services is planning to collaborate with parents in a diverse range of career fields who are willing to assist our students as advocates. In particular, we would greatly appreciate being informed by our parents of any relevant positions (full-time and internship) with their respective employers.
As you know, Grove City College students are intelligent, motivated and ethical young adults. We count it a privilege to serve your son/daughter through a variety of programs.
You can help us serve “our” students by informing hiring managers and human resource professionals about the high caliber of our students. We want to assist students from all majors (engineering, technology, education, business, liberal arts and sciences) and look forward to your input.
Please contact our office at career@gcc.edu or (724) 458-3371 if you believe you can be of assistance to us in this way. We thank you for your time and look forward to working with you!
