GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Religion and Politics working group of The Center for Vision & Values at Grove City College is sponsoring a lecture – “Right, Left and Confused: The Political Geography of American Protestants” – by Dr. Darryl G. Hart of the Intercollegiate Studies Institute at 7 p.m. April 16 in the Sticht Lecture Hall in the Hall of Arts and Letters.
Hart is the director for partnered projects at ISI in Wilmington, Del., and is a former professor at Wheaton College. He also served as editor of the Westminster Theological Journal. He is currently an adjunct professor of church history at Westminster Seminary California. He lives in the Chestnut Hill area of Philadelphia, Pa., with his wife, Ann. Hart has authored more than a dozen books, his most recent titled, “A Secular Faith: Why Christianity Favors the Separation of Church and State.”
Dr. Gary Smith ’72, chair of the College’s history department, hopes those who attend will gain an understanding of the varied political perspectives held by American Christians.
“Many students do not understand the competing political perspectives espoused by contemporary Christians, especially those who are political moderates or liberals,” Smith said. “Christians have a responsibility to participate in politics in an informed way to promote justice, equality of opportunity, peace, protection of the environment, and other biblical norms. They can only do this effectively if they understand relevant biblical principles, options for political participation, and the best strategies for influencing the political process.”
Hart’s lecture is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.
