GROVE CITY, Pa. – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his call to service and volunteerism will be the focus of the “Unity in Diversity Brown Bag Lunch Series” on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, from 12 noon to approximately 1:30 p.m. in the Great Room of the Breen Student Union on campus.
The event is the third lunch of the academic year and is presented by the Office of Multicultural Recruiting and Retention. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunches to the event; beverages and cookies will be provided. The event is free and open to the public.
At the event, Devi Wintrode, director of campus ministries, will share inspiring thoughts on service and how students can get involved on campus. Traci Turner, executive director of the Grove City Community Food Pantry, will also discuss her work in the community and volunteer opportunities.
The presentation and discussion are part of a campus-wide initiative aimed at developing skills and awareness of dialogue and encouraging engagement across differences in both classrooms and communities.
“Everybody can be great, because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love,” a famous King quote, calls to mind the importance of campus service.
For more information about the series, contact Dr. Lorie Johnson-Osho, director of multicultural recruiting and retention and assistant professor of education at (724) 967-2683.
