GROVE CITY, Pa. – Dr. Jim Thrasher ’80, director of career services at Grove City College, is a contributing author of a new book on recruiting, “Hire on a Whim: Four Qualities that Make for Great Employees.” The book identifies the four essential qualities that every great hire must possess: work ethic, humility, integrity and maturity. In the book, Thrasher addresses college recruiting.
The book, written by Garrett Miller, a recruiter for a Fortune 40 company for more than 10 years and current CEO of CoTria, has received positive reviews from business leaders such as Tyco’s Ed Breen ’78, human resources professionals and media outlets, including USA Today, LA Times, Monster.com and MSN Career Builder.
Thrasher, a Grove City College staff member since 1984, will also discuss key concepts from the book at the Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers (EACE) Conference in Hunt Valley, Md., in June. Thrasher, accompanied by Miller, will lecture on the four qualities of successful employees in “Hire Higher: The Final Four of Hiring.” The presentation will offer tips to employers on how identifying and hiring individuals with the four qualities will lead to overall company achievement.
Thrasher’s Grove City College colleagues Mandy Sposato ’00, associate director of career services, and Erika Mayer, assistant director of career services, will also present a speed learning session at the conference. Sposato and Mayer will present “Pie & Alumni: A Collaborative Evening of Alumni-Student Networking and Knowledge-Sharing,” where they will discuss the benefits of an Alumni Career Panel Night to fellow career services practitioners.
