GROVE CITY, Pa. – In the current financial climate, it is more important than ever for America’s young people to have a good understanding of basic free market economic principles. It is with that goal that The Center for Vision & Values at Grove City College has established a new dessert program, “Freedom Readers,” aimed at educating students through the economics editorial writing of free market thinkers.
Foundation for Economic Education President Larry Reed ’75 and Elle Speicher ’08 of the Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation will lead off the first dessert program at 7 p.m. Nov. 18 in the Memorial Room in the Pew Fine Arts Center. Grove City College Economics Department Chairman Dr. Jeffrey Herbener will introduce Reed. The program is free and open to the public, although seating is limited. Register in advance with Brenda Vinton at (724) 450-1541 or at blvinton@gcc.edu.
President of the Foundation for Economic Freedom since September, Reed is the founder and president emeritus of The Mackinac Center for Public Policy and a past president of the State Policy Network. He is on the Center’s advisory board and is a 1998 Grove City College Alumni Achievement Award winner.
The Center plans to host three “Freedom Readers” evening dessert programs each semester with a writer discussing his or her free market economics editorial and presentations from recent graduates working in the policy arena. In addition to educating students to free market principles and increasing interest in the Center’s programming, “Freedom Readers” aims to expand knowledge of freedom-oriented policy career and study opportunities.
The Center for Vision & Values has gained expertise in writing and disseminating timely insights with 150 opinion editorials in the 2007-2008 academic year. Beginning with the days of renowned economics professor Dr. Hans Sennholz, Grove City College has long valued the concise, well-written and entertaining opinion editorial grounded in academically sound arguments.
