GROVE CITY, Pa. – Four Grove City College students took second-place in the Tepper Venture Challenge, an annual business plan competition held at Carnegie Mellon University in late April. Three of the top teams to present were from Grove City College, defeating several teams from other institutions such as Duquesne University, Penn State University and Carnegie Mellon University.
The second-place students were: junior Sean Sullivan of Oxford, Mich., junior Spencer Folmar of Morrisdale, Pa., sophomore Jim VanEerden of Stokesdale, N.C., and sophomore Gret Glyer of Fairfax Station, Va. Their business plan, “Leave a Legacy,” was designed to provide customized and professional quality video legacies for a customer’s loved ones. The team received a reward of $2,750 for their presentation; part in cash, while the remainder will be used for legal fees to assist in starting the business this summer.
The College also placed finalists in business competition teams “Perfect Square Technologies” and “Women Absolutely Prepared.” “Perfect Square Technologies” included Folmar, Glyer and sophomore Megan Bennett of Poland, Ohio. Freshman Phillip Tan of Norfolk, Va. and freshman Alexander Cochran of Millersville, Md. represented “Women Absolutely Prepared.”
The business plan competition allows students to compete as entrepreneurs pitching business concepts to potential investors. Teams are provided 10 minutes to sell their vision to judges and 10 minutes to answer questions.
