GROVE CITY, Pa. – The team of Grove City College juniors Greg Kroleski of San Diego, Calif., and Chris Andrew of Bow, N.H., received high marks as one of 16 chosen to compete at Colorado State University’s Center for Entrepreneurship “Venture Adventure” Undergraduate Business Plan competition April 20-21 in Fort Collins, Colo. Also, two teams, Kroleski and Andrew and senior Ryan Entwistle of Centerville, Pa., finished in the top four out of almost 40 teams at Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper Venture Challenge April 15.
Kroleski and Andrew’s plan, “Bare Apparel,” a business that would print college-geared and custom T-shirts, garnered the second-place prize of $3,000 at the Carnegie Mellon competition. Entwistle’s plan to create a log home construction business placed fourth. Plans were submitted from such undergraduate programs as Carnegie Mellon, University of Pittsburgh, Allegheny College, Saint Vincent College, Duquesne University and Chatham College.
Kroleski and Andrew’s plan was selected as one of 16 finalists out of over 60 submissions for Colorado State’s national two-day competition. Finalists presented their plans to a panel of judges that included business professors and practicing entrepreneurs. The 16 entries were divided into four brackets, with the bracket winner advancing to compete for the cash prizes totaling more than $10,000 on the second day.
Grove City’s plan drew high marks from the judges for the presentation and preparation. The winner of their bracket, the University of British Columbia, advanced to win the overall competition.
Teams chosen as finalists included Syracuse University, University of Tampa, University of Oregon, Air Force Academy, University of Houston, Bradley University and University of Illinois.
The Entrepreneurship Program at Grove City College was established six years ago and now has over 70 students enrolled. The program has sponsored its own business plan competition for the past five years, but it is the first year students have competed in regional and national competitions.
