GROVE CITY, Pa. – Grove City College entrepreneurship students will take a lap around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway March 28 as they pitch a business idea for a chance to win $10,000, a quart of milk and a victory lap around the world-famous racetrack in the second annual Nascent 500 Business Plan Challenge.
Seniors Chris Andrew of Bow, N.H., and Greg Kroleski of San Diego, Calif., will have 500-second limousine ride with their business executive judges to make a pitch for “VenomReady,” a product designed to revolutionize the treatment of venomous encounters suffered from snakes, spiders and other reptiles. The VenomReady kit brings treatment to the hands of the consumer, is competitively priced and combines humanitarian benefit with blockbuster marketplace potential.
Grove City College will compete against teams from Ball State University, Illinois Institute of Technology, Illinois State University, University of Central Florida, University of Houston, University of Manitoba, University of Michigan, University of Saint Francis, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Vanderbilt University and Western Carolina University. The 12 teams were selected out of a number of business plans submitted by colleges and universities across North America.
After the initial trip around the track by each team, four will be selected by the judges to make a 15-minute business plan presentation in the “homestretch round.” The four will each receive a cash prize, and the top team will win a grand prize of $10,000, a quart of milk and a victory lap around the historic track. The competition, which is sponsored by Ball State University’s Entrepreneurship Center, is designed to give students experience in making business pitches outside the classroom or the office.
The Grove City College team is advised by Thomas Dillenburg, assistant director and adjunct professor with the Department of Entrepreneurship.
