January 24, 2008
GROVE CITY, Pa. – The second half of the 2007-08 Grove City College Guest Artist Series kicks off Feb. 11 with a performance by the José White String Quartet with Pianist Michiko Otaki. Remaining events begin at 8 p.m. in Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center on the Grove City College campus.
The José White String Quartet is composed of four outstanding young Latin American musicians residing in Mexico and is dedicated to chamber music. The members pay tribute to José White, a noted Cuban violinist of the 19th and early 20th century. The quartet debuted in 1997 and recently won first prize in Mexico’s leading chamber music international competition. Their performance will offer standard quartet literature and works by composers of Latin American origin.
Dallas Brass concludes the series on April 21. One of America’s foremost musical ensembles, the group has established a unique blend of traditional brass instruments with a full complement of drums and percussion, which creates performances of extraordinary range and musical challenges. The repertoire includes American classical masterpieces, Dixieland, swing, Broadway, Hollywood and patriotic music. The six-member group performs solo and also appears with symphony orchestras across the nation.
Tickets for the Guest Artist Series are available in the Financial Services Office on the second floor of Crawford Hall. Cost is $10 per performance. For ticket information, call (724) 458-2194.
