GROVE CITY, Pa. – The 2009-2010 Grove City College Guest Artist Series continues with the Turtle Island Quartet Dec. 8. All events in the series are public and begin at 7:30 p.m. in Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center on campus; tickets are required.
The quartet provides a glorious fusion of jazz and chamber music. Their creative music-making combines the classical string quartet feel with contemporary American musical styles such as folk, bluegrass, swing, rock and hip-hop. Winners of the 2005 and 2007 Grammy for classical crossover, they have great international appeal and have made more than a dozen recordings. The Turtle Island Quartet is the American quartet for music lovers in the 21st century.
The Pittsburgh Symphony Chamber Orchestra rounds out the series on March 24. For more than 100 years, the orchestra has been an essential part of Pittsburgh’s cultural landscape. The orchestra promotes artistic excellence with a rich history of the world’s finest conductors and musicians. Grove City College will enjoy the symphony’s chamber orchestra, which will present world-class versions of familiar works and classical pieces.
Tickets are $10 per performance. Beginning this year, the College is offering new options to purchase tickets. Both locations of the bookstore, on campus on the first floor of the Breen Student Union and the Crimson Connection downtown, at 231 S. Broad Street, are selling tickets. Reservations can also be made by e-mailing your name, performance desired and number of tickets to tickets@gcc.edu or by calling (724) 264-4460. Be sure to specify where you would like to pick up your tickets – the campus Bookstore or Crimson Connection.
