GROVE CITY, Pa. – In honor of the civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., Grove City College will host Timothy Russell, president of the Memphis Center for Urban Theological Studies, at 7 p.m. Jan. 19 in Harbison Chapel to present “Jesus, Plain and Simple – ‘Love Your Enemies.’” The event is free and open to the public.
Russell has served as associate pastor of the Covenant Fellowship Reformed Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, Pa., and pastor of the Geneva Reformed Presbyterian Church in Beaver Falls, Pa. Russell has also worked for Prison Fellowship Ministries as the program director for western Pennsylvania. He served at Geneva College as the director of financial aid from 1990-1995 and as the college chaplain from 1995-2005.
Russell holds a Bachelor of Arts in English/Education from Geneva College and a Master of Divinity from the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh, Pa. Russell is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Historical Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pa.
Russell and his wife, Katherine, attend the Second Presbyterian Church in Memphis, where he has served as the “scholar in residence.” He also serves as adjunct professor at Reformed Theological Seminary.
Russell’s presentation will focus on Luke 6:27-36 and King’s perspective on loving one’s enemies.
