GROVE CITY, Pa. – Grove City College’s series of organ concerts continues with John Ronald Daniels Jr. ’89 at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 in the Parker Organ Studio of the Grove City College Pew Fine Arts Center. The performance is free and open to the public.
Daniels is the organist and choirmaster at Saints Simon and Jude Church in Pittsburgh, Pa. He earned his bachelor of music degree at Grove City College and his master of music education degree at Duquesne University. Daniels holds the Service Playing Certificate from the American Guild of Organists. A former E. Power Biggs Fellow of the Organ Historical Society, Daniels has championed the society’s cause on the local and national levels, authoring several articles, performing numerous recitals and physically helping to restore and save many instruments.
An article about his work in Grove City College’s alumni magazine, the GeDUNK, inspired Royal Parker ’52 to donate the Miriam (Shellito ’52) Parker Memorial Organ in memory of his wife. The tracker organ was built by Fritz Noack of Georgetown, Mass., and produces sound mechanically.
Daniels is recognized as an authority on the life and music of the French Romantic organist and composer Théodore Salomé. He will perform selections from Johann Sebastian Bach, Craig Phillips, Josef Rheinberger, Georg Böhm, Arcangelo Corelli, Johann Pachelbel, David N. Johnson and Théodore Salomé.
The series concludes on Feb. 8, 2008, with a 7 p.m. performance by Dr. John Weaver, renowned concert organist and former chairman of the organ department at The Juilliard School.
