The mission of the physics department is to provide a high-quality, undergraduate physics education in a Christian environment, utilizing innovative, effective teaching techniques, and state-of-the-art facilities. Physicists seek to understand the intricate nature of our universe. Their search for truth and knowledge extends from the very large cosmos of stars and galaxies to the incredibly small world of atoms and sub-atomic particles. Some of the major fields of interest are atomic physics, biophysics, nuclear physics, optics, lasers, communications, cosmology, astronomy, electricity, magnetism, and solid-state physics. A physics major should be an inquisitive person who also has a strong aptitude for mathematics and enjoys solving complex problems.

CURRICULA

Students who wish to major in physics may choose from three degree options. Each of these provides a different emphasis and allows the student to prepare for a wide variety of future careers. The faculty teach all courses, and students have ample opportunity to meet with the faculty and get personalized help.

Applied Physics
This major incorporates significant concentrations in physics and mathematics courses. Graduates from this program typically continue their education in graduate school or find employment in industry.
Applied Physics/Computer
This major offers the opportunity of combining physics and computer science. A student may choose either a software or hardware concentration. Graduates from this program are highly sought after and generally work as programmers or computer designers.
Physics/General Science Secondary Education
This program is intended for students interested in teaching. Graduates obtain certification in both physics and general science at the secondary level (grades 7-12).
