spacer
April 21, 2009

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Grove City College Orchestra and choirs will present concerts on the Grove City College campus April 24 and 26. Both are free and open to the public; no tickets are required.

The first is the annual spring orchestra concert at 8 p.m. April 24 in Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center, featuring the winners of the Concerto Competition held earlier in the semester. The 15th annual competition recognized students on campus with musical talent who competed for a chance to perform with the orchestra.

Selections will be: “Fantasie Brillante for Flute and Orchestra” from Francois Borne’s “Carmen,” performed by sophomore Danielle Henry of Lyons, N.Y.; “Concerto in D Major for Violin” by Johannes Brahms, performed by sophomore Jimmy Pang of Staten Island, N.Y.; “Second Concerto in g minor for Piano” by Camille Saint-Saens, performed by junior Sarah Parris of Chadbourn, N.C.; and “Brandenburg Concerto No. 4” by J. S. Bach, performed by sophomores Emily Stumpf of Baltimore, Md.; Alexis Stave of Maple Plain, Minn.; and Jimmy Pang of Staten Island, N.Y.

Senior Holly Jones of Olean, N.Y., will conduct Alexander Borodin’s “In the Steppes of Central Asia” and “Vocalise” by Sergei Rachmaninoff. The orchestra concert will begin with Antonin Dvorak’s “Carnival Overture.” The orchestra is under the direction of Dr. Richard Konzen.

The April 26 annual choral concert at 6:30 p.m. in Harbison Chapel will feature the Chapel and Touring choirs singing Handel’s “Messiah,” parts II and III. Student soloists will perform and Konzen will accompany on the organ. The choral program is under the direction of Dr. Douglas Browne.
