GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Orchesis Dance Troupe at Grove City College will take audiences through the airwaves in this year’s show themed “Orchesis Rockin’ to the Radio.” Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 13 through 15 and also at 3 p.m. on Nov. 15 in Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center.
A variety of dances will be presented, featuring numerous types of dance from hip-hop to lyrical. “The variety of dance styles and techniques that each new group of choreographers brings makes the show even more exciting because it changes from year to year,” said Junior Head Choreographer Christianna Dawson.
The show will feature 18 dances choreographed to songs such as Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel,” Aretha Franklin’s “Respect,” Gloria Estefan’s “Turn the Beat Around,” The Beatles’ “Blackbird,” Michael Buble’s “Feeling Good,” One Republic’s “Stop and Stare,” Christina Aguilera’s “Car Wash” and U2’s “Sweetest Thing.”
Senior Head Choreographer Kelli Stewart said, “I absolutely love to dance, especially in a setting where I can glorify God with the gift of dance. I love seeing a group of students come together with their love for dance and share it with the community and the campus.”
This year’s show features 89 students under 16 choreographers. About 20 of this year’s participants are new Orchesis participants.
“I find it incredible that 89 students can come together and put on such a great show,” Stewart said.
This year Orchesis’ fundraiser, “Dancing with the Stars,” involved student voting on six professors to see which of the six will join Stewart and Dawson dancing on stage during the 3 p.m. show on Nov. 15. The winning professor has not yet been named.
The show is open to the public and free tickets are available by contacting junior Gretchen Burger at BurgerGA1@gcc.edu.
