INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Recent internships done by students in the History department include working at Harper’s Ferry, Loghurst, Hale Farm and Village, the Brandywine Battlefield, the Philadelphia Zoo, the Senator John Heinz Pittsburgh Regional History Center, the Pennsylvania State Archives, The Smithsonian, and The Library of Congress.
CAREER AND GRADUATE SCHOOL PLACEMENT
Students graduating with a degree in Secondary Education Social Studies typically teach in middle schools or high schools. Those who graduate with a degree in history pursue various careers in government service, politics, the military, publishing, journalism, communications, human resources, public relations, archives and museums, preservation/restoration, and archaeology. They work for educational agencies and foundations, historical associations and societies, historical projects, research institutions, service agencies, and genealogical services. Many students choose to earn graduate degrees in history. Recent graduates have done so at Kent State University, the University of Rochester, City University of New York, Villanova University, Duquesne University, Middlebury College and the Sorbonne, James Madison University, The College of William and Mary, and Penn State University. After finishing these programs, they often teach at colleges and universities, for educational agencies and foundations, or in adult education and corporate training programs.
