FACILITIES
The Hopeman School has excellent facilities that provide support for classroom learning. The Hoyt Hall of Engineering houses laboratories for circuit design and analysis, electrical machines, communication systems, control systems and computer systems.
These laboratories provide state-of-the-art equipment and computer workstations that are fully compatible with the color, DVD+/-RW equipped tablet PCs that students receive as part of the Information Technology Initiative. Adjacent to Hoyt Hall, the Weir C. Ketler Technological Learning Center provides additional access to Windows-based computers for applications-related work, including Internet access.
ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
GCC will award up to four $2,500 scholarships to incoming engineering freshmen who show academic promise and outstanding leadership qualities. Most (not all) of the scholarships require students to demonstrate financial need. Recipients may have their scholarship renewed for the next three years if they maintain a superior QPA (3.0 or better) and prove to be good campus citizens. The total value of each scholarship is $10,000.
In order to compete for the scholarship, students must submit as Engineering Scholarship Reference Form to the Financial Aid Office by March 15th. To be considered for the need based Engineering Scholarships, the Grove City College Financial Aid Application must also be submitted by March 15, one month before the normal deadline. These forms, and additional information on the Engineering Scholarship Program, can be found in the Financial Aid area of the Grove City College website at www.gcc.edu.
INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Many Grove City engineering students choose an internship as a way to get practical experience and make future job contacts. Electrical and Computer Engineering students have interned with companies such as EDS, Inc., Lockheed-Martin, Motorola, NASA Lewis Research Center, Seagate and Vitesse Semiconductor. Mechanical Engineering students interned with companies such as Lockheed Martin, NASA Lewis Research Center, Bechtel Plant Machinery, Microsoft and Westinghouse.
CAREER AND GRADUATE SCHOOL OPPORTUNITIES
The objective of any undergraduate engineering program is to prepare its students for industry and/or graduate school. The faculty feel that their job is not complete until graduates have achieved one of these goals.
Together with the Career Services Office, the department faculty will assist you in the process of seeking employment. Our placement record is outstanding, as illustrated by the large number of high quality companies who recruit our graduates. These companies include Allegheny Power, Allegheny Ludlum, Bechtel Bettis Labs, CJL Engineering, General Electric, Intel, Intersystems, Northrup Grumman, Plextronics, US Navy, and the US Patent Office.
Department faculty assist students who are interested in pursuing graduate study with search and admittance procedures. Leading graduate schools – such as Penn State University, University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, Syracuse University, Georgia Tech and Massachusetts Institute of Technology – enroll our graduates.
