GROVE CITY, Pa. – Dr. David Lawrence of the Johns Hopkins University Advanced Physics Laboratory, will speak at Grove City College on Nov. 13 at 4 p.m. in the Rockwell Hall of Science. In his lecture, titled “Messenger: A Mission to Explore the Planet Mercury,” he will discuss the latest developments regarding the study of the mysterious planet.
Lawrence is a member of the Messenger spacecraft team that is now exploring the innermost planet, Mercury. Messenger’s third flyby of Mercury occurred just one month ago. He is an expert in gamma-ray and neutron spectroscopy and determining planetary compositions by remote sensing. As a mission scientist, he uses data from the gamma-ray and neutron spectrometer to investigate Mercury's composition and geology.
