GROVE CITY, Pa. – On the eve of an expected U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the right to bear arms in the landmark case District of Columbia v. Heller, The Center for Vision & Values at Grove City College will host Dr. Nelson Lund, a Constitutional scholar who filed a brief in the case, on June 10 as part of the American Founders Luncheon Series at the Rivers Club in Pittsburgh.
Lund, vice dean and Patrick Henry Professor of Constitutional Law and the Second Amendment at George Mason University School of Law, will discuss “Gun Control, the Supreme Court and the Founders’ Second Amendment.” He filed a brief on behalf of the Second Amendment Foundation supporting Heller, the respondent. The Supreme Court is expected to rule in June on whether District residents will be allowed to legally buy handguns for the first time since 1976.
Sponsored by the Center and the Pittsburgh Federalist Society, the American Founders Luncheon Series brings to Pittsburgh respected scholars on America’s founding to present talks focused on the beliefs, actions and character of those leaders who pursued a “Great Experiment” in whether humans are capable of governing themselves.
At George Mason, Lund has served as co-editor of the “Supreme Court Economic Review” and acted as associate dean for academic affairs. A graduate of St. John’s College in Annapolis, Md., he holds advanced degrees in philosophy from the Catholic University of America and in political science from Harvard University. He received his law degree in 1985 from the University of Chicago, where he was executive editor of the “University of Chicago Law Review” and chapter president of the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy.
Lund has written widely in the field of constitutional law, including articles on constitutional interpretation, federalism, separation of powers and the Second Amendment.
The Founders Luncheon costs $17.76. To register, log onto http://afls.grovecityconference.com/second-amendment or contact Brenda Vinton at (724) 450-1541.
