GROVE CITY, Pa. – Grove City College junior Renee Erbrecht of Eighty Four, Pa., has been selected for an AustraLearn Scholarship Program Director’s Award to help with the costs of studying abroad in Christchurch, New Zealand, this spring. Erbrecht is the first Grove City College early childhood and elementary education student to study abroad for a semester.
Erbrecht will spend the semester at the University of Canterbury, the second oldest university in New Zealand. She enrolled through AustraLearn, a non-profit provider of study abroad programs in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.
Erbrecht was chosen for the scholarship by a committee of international education professionals who reviewed the scholarship applications. The program issues a variety of awards, travel grants and university sponsored scholarships to deserving students.
This semester, an all-time high of 26 students will study abroad with the help of the Office of International Education on campus. Students will study in Argentina, Australia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, England, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Panama, Scotland and Spain. Two exchange programs will be offered this summer: the Seoul Women’s University program and the Irish-American Scholar Program. Many short-term summer study abroad opportunities are available as well.
