B.A. in English, Minor in Biology, Minor in Psychology

Do you feel like you made any concessions to come to a school that is reasonably priced?
Obviously, there are trade-offs in any decision, and perhaps, in my first years of Grove City College, I made some trade-offs in the quality of dorms and in lab space compared to the University of Pittsburgh. However, the completion of STEM Hall provided some great new spaces for science students.

How is faith incorporated in the classroom?
Faith is a regular part of the classroom at Grove City College, regardless of the course content. I had a Physics professor—who became one of my favorite professors at the College—who set aside class time each Friday for devotions. Professors at the College go from showing you how to pass a test to showing you how to live.

How do the academics challenge students to think on a deeper level about the world and life in general?
Even in classes where it would have been much easier to structure the class this way, very few of my professors were content to require us to memorize buckets of information. Professors challenged students to think critically, and to consider why topics might be important beyond the classroom.

What are some of the ways that professors ensure that students not only receive information but truly learn and understand how to apply that information?
I don’t think I ever went to see a professor for office hours and left without them asking me about how I was doing. I went in for help on a paper or homework problem and left with helpful tips about job hunts, relationships, or books to read next. With that personal touch, my professors helped to remind me that we weren’t just in college to learn information but to learn how to live.

What do you find to be the most unique aspect of Grove City College?
I think the most unique aspect is the relationships that students have the opportunity to develop with professors. Talking with some friends in graduate school about their undergraduate experiences, they relate stories of never even seeing professors for certain classes, or only interacting with professors enough to learn how to do a homework problem.

Describe some of your experiences in campus activities.
I found that working off campus—especially as an EMT—was a great way to serve and get to know the Grove City community beyond the College. Working off campus is something I would highly recommend to incoming students.
