Music

Do you feel like you made any concessions to come to a school that is reasonably priced?
Grove City College was a very attractive choice during my search because it was significantly less than any other private school I was interested in but I wouldn’t say I made any concessions. Although the cost was lower, I found it offered just as much, if not more, than other schools.

What are some of the ways you have been spiritually engaged while at Grove City College?
Weekly chapel services kept me engaged spiritually, as well as involvement in local churches from which there are plenty to choose. The campus community itself served as spiritual stimulant by having so many members with a committed faith and willing to discuss it.

How is faith incorporated in the classroom?
Professors takes time to add Christian perspective to their areas of study. Some do so by the specific authors chosen to study, some hold classroom discussions on how faith is present, and others simply present information from a Christian viewpoint.

How would you describe the level of academics you have experienced during your time at Grove City College?
I found that more demanding classes offer greater rewards. I consider it a privilege to have learned from so many brilliant professors and am impressed with how many quality professors teach at Grove City College.

What drew you to choose music as your major?
I was heavily involved in music throughout high school and eventually decided it was the best path for me. I chose to study music education specifically because because I had the desire to help provide quality education to future students. I was inspired to be a music teacher after having both good and bad experiences myself with past music teachers, so I now strive to ensure the best experience for as many students as possible.

How would you describe the relationship that the students have with each other on campus?
I was drawn to the welcoming and friendly community of the campus. Close friendships were easily made and even people I didn't know were so friendly to me and each other. I noticed an unwritten rule of respect for one another adhered to by everyone.

What advice would you give to an incoming student?
Be open to change, take your studies seriously and don’t be afraid to get involved in campus life, yet take care to not overcommit. College is a major transition in life, but was a wonderful one for me at Grove City College and it worked best for me to embrace the new independence and responsibility. Due to the academic rigor of this school, focus on studying is crucial and could be the most difficult part of transitioning, but no workload is unmanageable with the right mindset. It is also important to get involved in other activities as a way to relieve stress and spend time with friends, but be cautious to not overextend yourself in too many activities so that they become stressful and counterproductive.
