Traditional Christmas Candlelight Service brightens season

Grove City College invites students, family, friends, alumni and the local community to the annual Christmas Candlelight Service, a moving celebration of the season.

Two candlelight services are slated for 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, in the historical Harbison Chapel on the campus of Grove City College.

The Rev. Dr. Dean Weaver, interim chaplain, will preach on “The Savior’s Song” and read “Thou Wilt Light My Candle,” honoring a campus tradition begun more than 30 years ago by former Dean of Chapel Dr. Richard Morledge ’54.

The Grove City College Touring Choir will perform hymns and lead the congregation in “Silent Night” during the lighting of candles. College Organist Dr. Bradley Fitch and the Gallery Brass student ensemble will provide additional music for this beautiful and highly visual reminder of the importance of this season.

The services are always well attended by students and the larger community and seating can be at a premium. Early arrival is recommended with parking available in the Rathburn Hall lot.  The event is free and open to the public.
