Family Weekend showcases art, music, dance, theater

Grove City College’s Family Weekend offers many chances to experience the talent of students in art, music, dance and theater on campus Friday, May 4 and Saturday May 5.

The Gallery of Pew Fine Arts Center hosts the Student Art Exhibit all weekend. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The College’s theater honorary, Tau Alpha Pi, presents TAP One-Acts in the Little Theater at Pew Fine Arts Center at 3 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Friday and 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday. All shows are free, but space may be limited. To reserve tickets, visit www.gcc.edu/tickets.

Music lovers can catch the Grove City Singers, a women’s ensemble directed by Dr. Stacy Paparone ’93, associate professor of music, at 6 p.m. Friday in Arnold Recital Hall, and then stick around for the 7:30 p.m. Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble Concert in Ketler Auditorium. Dr. Joseph Pisano ’94, professor of Music, directs the bands. Both shows are in Pew Fine Arts Center and free and open to the public.

The Spring Dance Show, a staple of Family Weekend for a century, will be previewed at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 3, with shows at 8 p.m. Friday and 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the Arena of the Physical Learning Center.

The College’s Jazz Ensemble and Stage Band perform at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Ketler Auditorium. This concert features vocal performances by Kirsten Ward ’19 and Alina Santiago ’18, new compositions by Dr. Joseph Hasper, associate professor of Music, and a surprise guest artist appearance.

Grove City College’s much-anticipated All-College Sing, a tradition that showcases the singing and dancing prowess of the College’s fraternities, sororities, housing groups and independent organizations gets started at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Arena.

All performances are free and open to the public. Many will be webcast at www.gcc.edu/livestream.

Family Weekend celebrates the academic, service, musical, athletic, and social achievements of Grove City College students over the academic year. It is a chance for some families to be introduced to the College community and others, with generations of alumni, to foster the deep ties of kinship they’ve developed “‘mid the pines.”
