GROVE CITY, Pa. – The 2006-07 Grove City College Guest Artist Series continues Jan. 29 with Marvin Hamlisch, acclaimed composer and pops conductor. The performance begins at 8 p.m. in Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center on the Grove City College campus.
As a composer, Hamlisch has won three Oscars, four Grammys, four Emmys, a Tony, three Golden Globes and a Pulitzer Prize. His compositions include the Broadway shows “A Chorus Line” and “The Goodbye Girl,” and more than 40 motion picture scores, including “The Way We Were” and “The Sting.” He holds the position of principal pops conductor with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C. Hamlisch will perform on the piano at the Jan. 29 concert.
America’s premier Christian ballet company, Ballet Magnificat!, rounds out this year’s Guest Artist Series with an 8 p.m. performance March 29. With world-class dance and powerful performances, Ballet Magnificat! touring companies minister through life-impacting experiences. Their performances are designed to glorify the Lord while captivating the audience with a kaleidoscope of movement, light and sound. This show will present “Hiding Place,” inspired by the true story of Corrie Ten Boom.
The Guest Artist Series featured Grammmy-winning Chestnut Brass and historical impersonator John “Chuck” Chalberg this fall.
