GROVE CITY, Pa. – The acclaimed musical, “My Fair Lady,” come to life on the Grove City College main stage March 11 through 14 in Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center.

Performances are 7:30 p.m. daily, including a 2 p.m. matinee on March 14. Tickets are required but free of charge.

Adapted from George Bernard Shaw’s “Pygmalion” the musical was written by Alan Jay Lerner, with music by Frederick Loewe. “My Fair Lady” is the story of Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle, played by sophomore Rebecca Sherman of Beaver, Pa., who agrees to take speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins, played by junior George Hampe of New Brighton, Pa. He sets out to turn Eliza into a sophisticated lady, spurred on by a wager from Colonel Pickering, played by junior Kevin Gaul of Stow, Ohio. The cast also includes: Eliza’s father, Alfred P. Doolittle, who is played by senior Brian Jinks of North Huntingdon, Pa.; junior Jordan Benis of Jersey Shore, Pa., who plays Eliza’s suitor, Freddy Eynsford-Hill; and senior Katherine Kirk of Pittsburgh, Pa., who plays Mrs. Higgins.

The musical’s debut on Broadway earned it numerous Tony Awards, including Best Musical in 1957. It has since enjoyed numerous theatrical revivals and film adaptations, becoming one of the most commercially successful American productions. “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly,” “Get Me to the Church On Time” and “Show Me” are a few of the musical’s classic tunes.

Betsy Craig, professor of English, will direct the production, with the assistance of student director, junior LeeAnn Yeckley of Cranesville, Pa. Senior Jenna Dailey of Concord, Ohio, is technical director.
