spacer GODSPELL COMES TO GROVE CITY COLLEGE STAGE

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The popular musical “Godspell” comes to life on the Grove City College main stage Oct. 28 through 31 in Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center on campus. Performances are 7:30 p.m. daily, including a 2 p.m. matinee on Oct. 31. Tickets are required but free of charge.

Based on the Gospel of Matthew, “Godspell” was created by John-Michael Tebelak, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. First produced in 1971, the musical tells the story of Jesus Christ through contemporary settings and song lyrics. It features the break-out hit, “Day by Day,” as well as “O My Soul,” “All Good Gifts” and “We Beseech Thee.”

The production features a limited cast of actors and musicians. Senior George Hampe of New Brighton, Pa., plays the part of Jesus, and sophomore Tyler Crumrine of Ligonier, Pa., plays the parts of both John the Baptist and Judas Iscariot. Other members of the cast include: junior Rebecca Sherman of Avon Lake, Ohio; senior Jordan Benis of Jersey Shore, Pa.; senior Abigail VanPatter of Matthews, N.C., junior Brennan Bell of Curwensville, Pa.; junior Courtney Cameron of Jeanette, Pa., sophomore Rachel Perry of Gibsonia, Pa.; freshman Joel Richardson of Butler, Pa.; and senior Nancy Stabley of Lock Haven, Pa. The band includes senior Aaron Biller of New Park, Pa.; sophomore Mike Swanson of Carnegie, Pa.; senior Kevin Etzler of Emmitsburg, Md.; and sophomore Ryan Anderson of New Canaan, Conn.

Dr. James Dixon, professor of English, will direct the production, with the assistance of student director, senior Kevin Gaul of Stow, Ohio. Senior LeeAnn Yeckley of Cranesville, Pa., is the stage director, and senior Matt Barnette of Elkins Park, Pa., is the technical director. The music director is junior Monica Dudek of Ford City, Pa., and the choreographers are sophomores Kaitlin Mack of Avon Lake, Ohio, and Samantha Mendez of Export, Pa.
