GROVE CITY, Pa. – Eric Pillmore, the man who helped transform Tyco International Ltd. into a leader in corporate governance, will give the J. Paul Sticht ’39 Lecture in Business and Ethics at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 in Sticht Lecture Hall in the Hall of Arts and Letters on the Grove City College campus.
The annual lecture in business and ethics is given in honor of the late J. Paul Sticht ’39, who has served as a College Trustee since 1963 and was the Board Chairman from 1998 to 2003.
Pillmore’s lecture, “Restoring an Ethical Culture and Related Lessons Learned,” is free and open to the public.
From 2002 to 2007, Pillmore served as Tyco’s senior vice president of corporate governance, a position created after Grove City graduate Ed Breen ’78 stepped in as Tyco’s chairman and chief executive officer after the company’s 2002 financial scandal. Breen, former head of General Instrument Corporation and later Motorola, worked closely with Pillmore in both capacities.
Working with the board of directors and the Tyco leadership team, Pillmore helped transform Tyco from an image of poor governance to a role as a leader in corporate governance. These efforts resulted in Tyco being named by Governance Metrics International as the most improved U.S. company in the governance area from 2002 to 2005.
Prior to Tyco, he served as senior vice president and chief financial officer for Multilink Technology. Pillmore worked for General Instrument from 1996 to 2000, and served as senior vice president and CFO from December 1997 to January 2000, leading up to the sale of General Instrument to Motorola. In addition, he served for 17 years in a variety of senior finance roles for General Electric from 1979 to 1996, including roles as CFO for GE Plastics Americas and GE Medical Systems Asia. He also served as a U.S. Navy officer from 1975 to 1979, aboard the USS Robison in the western Pacific, and as an auditor with the Naval Audit Service in Washington, D.C.
Overall, Pillmore is an accomplished, results oriented leader with a proactive leadership style and a strong track record of improving processes and building highly motivated, diverse leadership teams. He has a hands-on leadership style with outstanding multi-cultural experience gained in a variety of industries, cultures and economic environments. He has a proven track record of helping teams to develop more disciplined processes, with successful outcomes.
Pillmore has a master’s degree in business administration from Villanova School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Anderson School of Business at the University of New Mexico. He currently serves on the boards of the CEO Forum, Focus on the Family, the Ken Blanchard School of Business, the Anderson Schools of Management and the Pillmore Family Foundation.
