GROVE CITY, Pa. – Charles Wiley of Accuracy In Media will speak on “Modern Youth Culture” at 7 p.m. March 27 in Sticht Lecture Hall of the Hall of Arts and Letters on the Grove City College campus. His lecture is jointly sponsored by The Center for Vision and Values at Grove City College and the department of sociology.
Wiley is a superb lecturer, drawing on well over half a century of fascinating personal experiences, going back to his days as a child actor before World War II, his naval service in the Pacific and subsequent journalistic work around the globe. He has lectured in all 50 states and on five continents. While reporting from 100 different countries, his search for facts has led to his arrest eight times by secret police, including the KGB, and imprisonment in a Cuban dungeon while he was a correspondent for the New York City radio station WOR.
Wiley has covered 11 wars, including reporting for NBC, UPI, the London Express and numerous other U.S. and foreign news media. A graduate of New York University, his freelance articles and photographs have appeared in many publications, including the New York Times, U.S. News & World Report, Newsweek and Time. A well-known radio/TV talk-show personality, he has also appeared on hundreds of network and local programs, including CNN’s “Crossfire” and C-SPAN.
Wiley has lectured at the Jinan University in China and at the Leningrad and Moscow State Universities in Russia. He helped establish guidelines for a free press in Mongolia, was a speaker for the White House Public Outreach Group, lectured in New Zealand at the Civil Defence Academy and played a major role at various international conferences.
He frequently addresses military audiences in the United States and abroad including the Naval War College, the Defense Intelligence Agency School, the Air Force School, the Navy Postgraduate School, CincPac, the UK Intelligence School and many others. He was also the keynote speaker at a two-day conference in Washington D.C., on homeland defense and terrorism.
Wiley speaks annually at dozens of colleges, high schools and other youth audiences throughout the country. Included are yearly talks at University of California at Berkeley and to almost 2,000 of the country’s top high school seniors at Boy’s State in New Jersey and Wisconsin.
Grove City College is listed as one of the Most Competitive colleges in the nation by Barron’s. In its category, Grove City College is also ranked by U.S. News & World Report as No. 1 Best Value and No. 3 overall in the 2006 guide to America’s Best Colleges. Grove City College has also been called a “best value” and a “hidden treasure” by guidance counselors in the Kaplan National High School Guidance Counselor Survey, and is also the No. 16 Best Bargain school according to the Princeton Review. Founded in 1876, it is located 60 miles north of Pittsburgh, Pa. With an enrollment of 2,300 students, it is a private Christian college teaching the liberal arts, sciences and engineering. It is an advocate of the free market economic system and accepts no federal funding. Tuition is about half of the national average for private colleges.
