GROVE CITY, Pa. – Grove City College’s education honorary, the Tau Alpha chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, has received the Achieving Chapter Excellence Award for the fourth consecutive time. It is one of only a few out of more than 500 college chapters to earn the award four times since 2001.
Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education, was founded in 1911 at the University of Illinois and was established to foster excellence in education and promote fellowship among those dedicated to teaching. The founders chose the name from the Greek words to represent knowledge, duty and power. Pioneering from its beginning by including women as well as men, Kappa Delta Pi grew from a local chapter to the international organization it is today, comprising more than 580 chapters and 45,000 members.
Established in 1995, the Achieving Chapter Excellence Award Awards Program recognizes Kappa Delta Pi chapters that exhibit outstanding programming in support of the society’s mission and strategic goals. Since its inception, chapters across the country have aspired to offer creative, purposeful programming and a full slate of chapter activities with the hope of earning this award, which is given every two years. Chapters must submit a portfolio highlighting two years of chapter activities in these six areas: programming, membership and retention, recognition; service ideals; practices, inquiry, reflection – science and fidelity to human ideals; professional development and leadership development.
Grove City College Kappa Delta Pi representatives will travel to the national convention in Orlando, Fla., on Oct. 29 to accept the 2009 award and give presentations on their campus activities.
