DISTINGUISHED PROFESSOR TO SPEAK AT HOPEMAN LECTURE |

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Grove City College will host Dr. Philip J. Savage as the featured speaker for the 2010 Albert A. Hopeman Jr. Memorial Lecture in Science and Engineering April 28 at 7 p.m. in Sticht Lecture Hall of the Hall of Arts and Letters on campus. The presentation, “Under Pressure and in Hot Water: Chemistry for a Sustainable World,” is free and open to the public.
Savage is Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Michigan. He has served on the faculty at Michigan for 24 years, receiving numerous awards for both teaching and research. He received the 2009 Michigan Green Chemistry Governor’s Award. Savage also earned the national Catalyst Award from the American Chemistry Council for excellence in chemical education.
Savage, who served as chair of the green chemistry subdivision of the American Chemical Society, has published more than 150 refereed scholarly articles. He has delivered lectures domestically and internationally on topics related to green chemistry and engineering and renewable energy. Savage is also a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
University of Michigan Arthur F. Thurnau professors are awarded distinction for their outstanding contributions to undergraduate education. These professors are recognized for their demonstrable impact on the intellectual development and lives of their students.
The annual Albert A. Hopeman Jr. Memorial Lecture in Science and Engineering is sponsored by the Grove City College Alumni Association and named in honor and memory of Albert A. Hopeman Jr., chairman of the Grove City College Board of Trustees from 1972 to 1998.
