GROVE CITY, Pa. – Dr J. Ligon Duncan III, president of the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals and senior pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, Miss., will visit Grove City College on Feb. 16-17 as part of the Evangelical Scholarship Conference.
Now in its second year, the conference is sponsored by the Student Government Association and the College’s religion department. The goal is to celebrate the Reformation and the Gospel. The conference theme this year is the life and work of John Calvin.
Duncan will deliver his main presentation at 7 p.m. on Feb. 16 in Harbison Chapel and will return to the Chapel at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 17 to speak. He will also lecture on the history of the church at 1 p.m. Feb. 17 in Sticht Lecture Hall in the Hall of Arts and Letters. Both chapel presentations and the lecture in Sticht Lecture Hall are open to the public.
Duncan is also chairman of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood. In 2004, Duncan was elected as moderator of the general assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America. Duncan received his Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Duncan has written or edited numerous books and articles including “Give Praise to God,” “The Westminster Confession in the 21st Century” and “In My Place Condemned He Stood.” He lives in Jackson with his wife, Anne, and their two children.
Duncan is the featured speaker for the third session of this year’s conference. Dr. Justyn Terry, the dean and president of Trinity School for Ministry, spoke at the first session of the conference and Dr. T. David Gordon, professor of religion and Greek at the College, spoke at the second. Dr. Charles MacKenzie, former president of Grove City College, and Dr. Derek Thomas from Reformed Theological Seminary are slated to speak at the last two sessions.
