CRAIG HONORED AS 2010 PROFESSOR OF THE YEAR |

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Betsy (Boak ’77) Craig, Grove City College associate professor of English and theater, was named the 2010 Professor of the Year at a ceremony hosted in Harbison Chapel on April 29.
A graduate of Grove City College, Craig has always been a special contributor to the campus. She graduated with honors as a communication and English secondary education major, and earned her master’s degree in theater from the Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions at New York University. In addition, Craig spent three summers studying theater in England at Bretton Hall Drama College (Leeds University). She currently is a doctoral candidate at New York University.
After teaching middle school English, Craig returned to Grove City College in 1981 as an assistant professor. In her time with Grove City, she has helped develop the theater and communication studies curriculum, acting as director and adviser for many of the College’s musicals, plays and individual student productions, as well as Children’s Theater.
She directed the nationally acclaimed play “La Bête,” which led off the 2009 Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival national showcase in Washington, D.C. She has also mentored numerous actors and technical staff, including LeeAnn Yeckley, one of only eight stage managers selected to participate in the 2010 Kennedy Center theater festival national showcase.
Craig is a returning fellow of the Intercultural Communication Institute, American Education Theater Association, Society for Intercultural Education (Training and Research), and is the recipient of the 1998 Faculty Fellowship Award for the International Radio and Television Society and the 1999 Florence MacKenzie Campus-Community Award.
Craig and her husband, Robert, have a son, Gordon, and reside in Grove City. She is a valued member of the community as well, having served on the board of directors for organizations such as the YMCA and the Literacy Council.
The Professor of the Year was initiated in 2000 by the Omicron Delta Kappa campus leadership honorary and is sponsored by the Grove City College Alumni Association. Past winners include: Dr. Eric Potter (2009), Dr. David Jones (2008), Larry Fleming (2007), Dr. Ralph Carlson ’62 (2006), Dr. James Bibza (2005), Richard Leo (2004), Dr. James Dixon (2003), Dr. Timothy Homan (2002), Dr. John Sparks ’66 (2001) and Dr. Gary Smith ’72 (2000).
