GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Center for Vision & Values at Grove City College will host a two-day conference, “Train Wreck: Progressive Liberals Surge, Conservatives Crack Up?” April 15 and 16 on campus. Registration is required.
The conference examines the clash between the philosophies and policies of progressives and conservatives. The annual event sponsored by The Center for Vision & Values, the campus think tank, features numerous scholars and commentators.
Speakers include: Amity Shlaes, a syndicated columnist for Bloomberg, author and senior fellow at the Council for Foreign Relations; George Nash, author and a senior fellow at the Russell Kirk Center for Cultural Renewal; Nick Eicher, publisher of WORLD Magazine; Michael Medved, a nationally syndicated radio talk show host and best-selling author; and Dr. Paul Kengor, executive director of The Center for Vision & Values and professor of political science at Grove City College. The conference will also feature more than 20 other speakers.
Shlaes, former columnist for the Financial Times and member of the Wall Street Journal’s editorial board, is author of “The Forgotten Man: A New History of the Great Depression.” A two-time finalist for the Loeb Prize in commentary, she also was co-winner of the Frederic Bastiat Prize in 2002.
An intellectual historian and lecturer, Nash is the author of several books, including one considered the definitive study of conservatism in America during the last half-century: “The Conservative Intellectual Movement since 1945.” Author of “Reappraising the Right: The Past and Future of American Conservatism,” Nash is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the Historical Society, the Calvin Coolidge Memorial Foundation, the Churchill Centre and is past president of the Philadelphia Society. Nash graduated from Amherst College and received his Ph.D. in history from Harvard University.
The cost of the conference is $25 per day, plus $50 per day for lunch and dinner. The total cost for the two-day event with all meals is $150.
