GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Grove City community will be given an opportunity to learn about the sobering global AIDS crisis on Oct. 12-15 as World Vision sponsors “Step Into Africa” at the Grove City YMCA on East Main Street.
World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. Its traveling exhibit, “Step Into Africa,” is designed to raise awareness throughout the United States about issues in Africa.
“[Step Into Africa] is an interactive experience designed to allow you to experience the journey of a child caught in the midst of the AIDS crisis,” said Devayani Wintrode, director of student ministries at Grove City College. World Vision’s exhibit features a compelling audio tour accompanied by revealing photography which capture the greatest humanitarian crisis of the present in a convicting new way.
According to Wintrode, a number of community organizations led by East Main Presbyterian Church are working together to bring the exhibit to Grove City.
“It’s significant that this exhibit is coming to Grove City,” Winrode said. “The rest of the tour is in major cities and at mega-churches.”
The exhibit will run from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Oct. 12-13; 1 to 11 p.m. Oct. 14 and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 15. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Childcare will be available at the exhibit from 8 to 10:30 a.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. throughout the weekend.
Due to situations mentioned in parts of the audio portion of the exhibit, parental discretion is advised for children under the age of 12. No strollers are allowed at the exhibit. For more information or to register for free tickets online, visit www.worldvisionexperience.org.
