COLLEGE TO HOST PLAYWRIGHT DURING STAGE PRODUCTIONS |

GROVE CITY, Pa. – When Grove City College student actors take the stage for the productions of “La Bête” and “Lettice and Lovage” beginning March 5, they will perform for a number of audiences – including “La Bête’s” author David Hirson, award-winning playwright. The performances will run from March 5-8.
Written in iambic pentameter, Hirson’s Molière-inspired play won numerous awards, such as the New York Newsday-Oppenheimer Award, Great Britain’s Lawrence Olivier Award for Comedy of the Year, as well as five Tony award nominations and six Drama Desk awards, including Best Play of 1991.
Hirson will give a presentation at 2:30 p.m. March 6 about his play, career and the issues a playwright faces writing for today’s commercial audiences. His presentation will be in Sticht Lecture Hall of the Hall of Arts and Letters and is free and open to the public; no tickets are required.
The College will also offer performances of Peter Shaffer’s “Lettice and Lovage,” a modern British comedy written in 1987. It was nominated for four Tony awards in 1990, winning two.
Both plays will be performed in the Pew Fine Arts Center. “Lettice and Lovage” is set to be performed in Ketler Auditorium in Pew, and “La Bête” will be performed in the Pew Little Theater. “Lettice and Lovage” show times are 5 p.m. March 5, 8 p.m. March 6, 5 p.m. March 7 and 8 p.m. March 8. “La Bête” show times are 8 p.m. March 5, 5 p.m. March 6, 8 p.m. March 7 and 5 p.m. March 8.

Both plays are directed by Betsy Craig ’77, associate professor of communication studies and theater.
