COLLEGE TO CONDUCT EMERGENCY SIREN TESTING |

March 28, 2008
GROVE CITY, Pa. – Beginning at 6 p.m. April 6, Grove City College will begin a weekly test of the campus emergency notification system. During the weekly test, the system will play a chime tone that will also serve as a reminder to the community that area residents are welcome to attend the weekly Vespers service at Harbison Chapel at 6:30 p.m. Sundays while school is in session. The weekly brief Sunday evening system test will continue year round even when school is not in session.
Chimes, however, will only be heard during the weekly tests. In the case of an actual emergency, the alert will be a combination of an audible message alerting the campus to the nature of the emergency and a different signal tone. Each alert will continue for approximately two minutes.
The emergency notification system is designed to alert the campus to weather-related emergencies such as severe storms and possible tornados as well as dangerous situations on campus. Depending on the circumstances, additional information may be provided to the campus via text message, e-mail and voice mail messages; information may also be posted on the College’s web site at www.gcc.edu.
The emergency notification system is one component of Grove City College’s Emergency Response Plan. The plan provides a framework to address a number of emergency situations such as fires, bomb threats and campus evacuations. The notification system was purchased from Federal Signal, Inc.
The signal is located just off of Madison Avenue beside the College’s central heating plant. The location insures that the emergency warning is audible on all outdoor areas of campus and some indoor areas as well. The signal may be heard in parts of the Borough of Grove City and portions of the east end of Pine Township.
