GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Grove City College Wolverine football team played its first night game in 2007 in front of a packed crowd. This year, the Wolverines will take the field under the lights again on Sept. 20 as they face Presidents’ Athletic Conference rival Bethany College. Kick off is at 7 p.m. at Robert E. Thorn Field.
In 2007, the Wolverines lost a 27-23 nail-biter to Waynesburg University in the final seconds. Students organized a “White Out” T-shirt campaign to show school spirit. A short fireworks display followed.
This year, the Wolverine Marching Band bleacher section will be located in the end zone in front of Phillips Field House to make room for a special student section in the stands. Wolverine Marching Band alumni will be on campus that day and will also take part.
The public is invited to attend the night’s festivities, which begin with pre-game at 6:30 p.m. There is no admission charge and no tickets are necessary for this special event. Another short fireworks display by Zambelli Internationale of New Castle will cap off the game.
The College added lights to Thorn Field two years ago as part of the facility’s renovation. The lights have allowed the College to open Thorn Field to the campus community for recreational use each evening in the fall and spring.
The rain date for the fireworks display will be Oct. 17, Homecoming Friday.
