GROVE CITY, Pa. – Grove City College and its Alumni Association are offering a fall series of lifelong learning classes. The initiative began one year ago and has served almost 200 alumni and friends during the inaugural series of classes.
Starting off the fall 2006 schedule is a series of area day tours that begins Sept. 21 and runs four weeks. Prices vary according to the tour.
Dick Beech, Here’s Howe vice president, will start the series with a tour of the Here’s Howe coffee plant in Grove City. The event is free and begins at 10:30 a.m. It is not handicapped accessible.
Next, the Rev. Sean Rowe ’97, pastor of the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Franklin, Pa., will host a presentation of the church’s Tiffany windows. The tour is $4 per person. The group will meet at the former Grove City Diner parking lot at 9:30 a.m.
On Oct. 5, Karl Hart ’92, manager of Wendell August Forge, will lead a tour at 10:30 a.m. It is free of charge.
Rounding out the series is a Slovak folk craft dinner tour on Oct. 12 beginning at 5 p.m. It will be led by Dave ’60 and Anne (Harker ’60) Dayton, owners of Slovak Folk Crafts at 1605 South Center St. in Grove City. The fee is $5 for an informational presentation, tour and Slovak dinner catered by Mark Arnold, chef at the Legacy Banquet Center. Registration is required by Oct. 5.
In a three-part series starting Sept. 30, Bon Appetit, Grove City’s food service, will host cooking demonstrations featuring Ed Lewis, who will give presentations on decorative art and centerpieces. The fee is $25 per person per class. Participants will be able to sample food at each class, which will be in the Mary Anderson Pew cafeteria on campus. The sessions will run from 10 a.m. to noon.

Dr. Fred Jenny, Grove City College instructional technologist and photographer, will teach a three-part series on Digital Photography – The Next Level. All three classes will be at 4 p.m. in the Technological Learning Center Training Room, Grove City College. Registration is $15 per person for the series.

A free, four-part series on Church and Society begins Oct. 2. All sessions are scheduled on Mondays starting at 4 p.m. in the Fetterolf Case Room 110 in the Hall of Arts and Letters on the Grove City College campus.

The Arts, a free, two-part series, takes place on Oct. 3 and Nov. 7. It features:

The Pottery Dome architectural tour and pottery demonstration, Lois Hamilton and Robert Isenberg, 2347 Leesburg Rd., 2 p.m. Nov. 7.
The final installment of the Lifelong Learning Series is a free, one-day seminar on Health and Safety. It includes panel discussions and question-and-answer time after each session. It will take place Nov. 11 at the Carnegie Colonnade in Carnegie Alumni Center on lower campus. The schedule is as follows:

The Lifelong Learning series is under the direction of Grove City College Alumni Council member and alumna Anne (Harker ’60) Dayton.
Classes are subject to a minimum number of registrants and may be cancelled by the Association. Checks should be made payable to Grove City College and credit card payment is also accepted.
