GROVE CITY, Pa. – Grove City College will sponsor its fifth Health Professions Conference from 8:30 a.m. to noon March 8 in the Hall of Arts and Letters on the Grove City College campus. The conference is designed to connect Grove City College students with admission directors and deans from various area health professional schools.
Participating institutions include physical therapy and occupational therapy programs from Duquesne University and Gannon University, Lock Haven University’s physician assistant program, optometry and physician assistant programs from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and Slippery Rock University’s physical therapy program.
The Health Professions Conference is held every other year on campus, alternating bi-annually with the Grove City College Medical School Conference.
The schedule of events includes: • Reception, 8:30 to 9 a.m., and Introductory Remarks, 9 to 9:15 a.m. • Admissions Department: Panel Discussion on Patient Profiles, 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. • Health Professional Students: Panel Discussion, 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. • Graduate School Presentations I, 10:50 to 11:20 a.m. • Graduate School Presentations II, 11:20 a.m. to noon
The admissions panel discussion will include representatives of each institution along with five fictitious student applicants. Additionally, programs will share their philosophy, mission statement and unique qualities. In the student panel discussion, students from each institution will respond to questions from the audience about the qualities of their school, its philosophy and highlights of their education. Prerequisites and suggested undergraduate courses will also be discussed.
The public is invited to attend; community members can learn more about healthcare in America and high school students who have an interest in medicine can start their search for information early. For more information, contact coordinator Dr. Mark D. Weber at (724) 458-2144 or mdweber@gcc.edu.
