GROVE CITY, Pa. – The disaster in Haiti has touched countless hearts, including the Grove City College community. In order to raise awareness and funds to help with rebuilding efforts, the College will host “Hoops for Haiti” at the men’s basketball game against Presidents’ Athletic Conference rival Thiel at 8 p.m. Feb. 10 in the Physical Learning Center Arena.
During the event, spirit towels will be available for a donation of at least $1 to the Haiti relief fund. The donations will benefit Dayspring Ministries, which hosts 29 churches and 12 orphanages in Haiti; every penny will go directly to relief efforts.
Student volunteers will begin distributing red towels during half time of the women’s basketball game that begins at 6 p.m. The towels were donated by the Student Government Association and the Religious Activities Committee and are decorated with the College’s varsity athletic logo and the phrase “Hoops for Haiti 2010.”
The men’s basketball team and Coach Steven Lamie plan to show their support of Haiti relief by wearing red shoelaces. Fans are encouraged to join in by wearing red to the game. The community is invited to participate in the event. Regular fees for the basketball game apply: $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and $2 for students with photo ID.
